Whenever I think about Sofia first meeting her sister I get all sappy. These days especially, I can cry in a split-second when I think of the first times she sets eyes on her baby sister and all the emotions come flowing. It’s this very moment that had me think about just how important it is that it be documented, and not just from MY view.
I got the idea of a Big Sister Bag from another mama-blogger, Kelly from Gav + Ro, she put together the sweetest little backpack filled with fun items her son would be able to use (and snack on) at the hospital during his visit there. I thought the idea was genius and wanted to run with it as well of course taking a bit of a spin on it myself. As I know the stay may be very short, so I’ve heard the 2nd time around they literally kick you out of the hospital after baby is born (only half kidding; common! we’re Canadian we would never do that! Not without an apology to follow). Our stay will likely be quick, but this does not mean it won’t be extremely memorable and emotional; the first thing I think of when I think memories and emotions…. CAMERA!
That’s it! I will get Sofia her very first real camera to document one of the biggest days of her life, the day she becomes a big sister.
I don’t know about you but waiting for film to be printed (back when we did that) but more-so now to get home to download the images off our SD cards, well that can be no fun at all; especially if you’re 5. So the hunt for an instant camera was put forth and then making the best choice considering a) a child’s clumsiness b) super little hands c) ease of use for a child’s mind. I targeted Fujifilm as they seem to be where it’s at when it comes to instant cameras… and would you believe I stumble across one in a shade only known in this house as the best color ever, bubble gum pink. I’m instantly sold!
The Instax Mini 8 comes in many colors and is beyond adorable, as you can clearly see! Let me tell you the reasons I chose it over other options as it’s really quite simple; One, it’s pink! Two, it’s mini! and Three, it’s crazy simple to use (after I educated myself on youtube; because isn’t that what everyone does?!).
Alongside the camera in Sofia’s Big Sister Bag is film (1 already loaded and 3 more packs of 10), a cardboard scrap book, 2 rolls of double sided tape and some stickers. All the necessities one would ever need to document, save and get crafty with such an important day in their life. The scrapbook, stickers and tape I found at Michael’s Crafts and the kit is an adorable Skip Hop Lunch Kit I picked up from Dandelions KIDS in Port Moody. Zipped shut and ready to go, I think the only final addition to the bag will be a sweet little card saying how excited we are for her to meet her sister, her new forever friend and sleepover buddy.

DID YOU arrange something for your kids like a Big Sister Bag, when they came to the hospital for the first time? I’d love to hear what you did, I find this little gesture so sweet on such a big impactful day in their lives as little people.
Disclosure:: I received perks from Fujifilm for writing this post, however this was only after I made the decision that the Fujifilm Instax Mini 8 was perfect for the occasion at hand. All opinions on the blog are my own.
