Want to take the Self-Care Day Challenge with me?!
Do 10 of you also wan’t to win a $15 Amazon Gift Card?!
I doubt I need to go into any tangents on the importance of self-care. We all know that we can’t pour from an empty glass. But can we all admit that it is very easy to fall by the wayside, especially as parents.
Lately, there has been a lot of talk about self-care, and thank goodness for that. It’s been a great little daily reminder to take time for myself as much as I can. From going out with friends, time with my family, pedicures, manicures and facials OH MY! Honestly though, I’ve learnt there is much more to it than that!
The concept of self-care is about empowering individuals, families and communities to practice healthy habits, prevent disease and cope with illness or disability to achieve optimum health. Taking better care of ourselves by utilizing the products available to us not only helps Canadians lead healthier lives, it also alleviates strain on our healthcare system! Making a commitment to practice self-care has so many benefits.
Bayer, a global health products leader, is working to educate consumers on how Better Self-care for a Better Life can make a difference in the quality of ones life, all while improving healthcare sustainability.
A FEW WAYS I’M PRACITING SELF-CARE THIS MONTH:
I feel more like myself when I am with friends. Let me explain. From 6:30am to 7:00pm, I am their Mama. At 4:00pm until about 10:30pm when Sammy finally gives in on the struggle and falls asleep on the couch, I am his Wife. But it’s not until I get away with my people, that I feel like myself. It’s easy to get lost in amoungst the many hats that we wear day-to-day. There is nothing wrong with the hats, in fact you love them and they fit you just perfectly. But sometimes it covers up who we are as individuals and taking them off every now and again to let down your hair down is what it’s all about. Getting out with friends for me is like cruising into a gas station on empty. I always wait until the E light comes on. It’s really a bad habit.
Anyone else wait until you’re running on fumes before topping up like me?
And we’re not talking car fuel here people!
Reading a good book can take you AWAY without actually getting away. You know what I mean? Also, reading a book that helps with self improvment is like free therapy, which I think we can all agree wouldn’t be a bad thing in this world. I’ve been recommend so many self-help books, now thinking about it I wonder if these people are trying to tell me something? Either way I’m taking the free advise including free therapy session straight to the bank. Making more time to read can do us all a little good.
For those of you wondering, some of the more recent recommendations have been “Present over Perfect“, “Body Postive Power” as well as “How to get Shit done“.
Read more. Laundry less.
I mean this could be some sorta’ movement. Who’s with me?
You know what I am also doing for personal Self-Care? Worrying less about what others think and focusing more on how I feel. Some people can say the strangest things to a perfect stranger (did you see my Facebook post the other day). Whether the comment was meant maliciously or not, I am thankful that I am not letting the words of other effect me like I would ‘ve in the past. I don’t know what it is, or maybe I do. wisdom comes with age I hear. But something in me the last year has just clicked over. I care more about how I personally feel and less about what Fran in the grocery store line-up has to say.
So, in support of International Self-Care Day on July 24th, I challenge you to share your self-care practices with me. To help get you started, Bayer has created a self-care calendar with one tip for each day of the month.
Also, we will be giving away ten $15 Amazon gift cards so you can purchase your favourite self-care products! In celebration of Self-Care Day, Bayer is running a Buy 3 for $10 promo on Amazon.ca at www.amazon.ca/bayercanada.
And if I may, I’d like to make a few recommendation. Grab a pair of Dr. Scholl’s Massaging Gel Insoles, you know you’re on your feet you all ding-dong day, do yourself a favor and get some good insoles. Maybe your Self-Care Day consists of getting back on that “yoga in the morning” band-wagon. Whatever it is, if it consists of being active get yourself some ALEVE Back & Body Pain and be prepared for the days to follow. Where my HAIR-LOSS AFTER BABY mamas’ at? This Self-Care Day treat yourself to Priorin and get your hair healthy again from the inside out.

I practice self-care by taking time to go for a walk by myself or just sitting quietly reading a book @littlemissmama_ #SelfCareDay

I struggle so much with taking time for myself. As a work at home, single mom, there is NEVER enough time for me. I need to do small things here and there.
One thing I’ve been doing recently is listening to novels from the library on my phone while I’m doing chores or driving. I used to listen to business types of books, but I decided to treat myself to stories!!!

Susan, I hear yah! I’m so happy to hear you found something that works for you. I too find myself just taking 5 or 10 minutes here and there as getting a great big lump-sum of time away is sometimes just impossible. What a great idea to listen to your novels. I have been toying more and more with the idea of podcasts and listening more to then when I have some free time. It’s just finding the time to hunt one down I would be interested in. LOL
