This time up to Whistler, we got all that one might dream would happen when travelling to Whistler over the Winter Holidays. It snowed, and it snowed hard, then it let up just enough for the sun to come out, followed by another light dusting of massive slow falling snowflakes. Someone PINCH ME! I doubt you could smack the smile off my face the entire time we were there (do it though and that would just be mean).
We stayed 2 nights (3 days) at one of our favorite hotels, the Delta Whistler Village Suites, which we got an amazing deal thanks to LivingSocial. We managed to get a 1 bedroom king suite with kitchenette, underground parking for 2 nights, a $25 dining credit to one of their restaurants (Brickworks Public House or Three Below), and late check-out of 1pm for $271. I doubt we’ve gotten a better deal than this ever staying in Whistler Village, you can bet if they do this again we will buy more than one voucher this time!
Dining out in Whistler can sometimes be daunting with children, finding restaurants anywhere that are kid-friendly (and appropriate) is a task. Some of our favorites in the village are Old Spaghetti Factory, Earls (hello gingerbread cake), Dubh Linn Gate Pub (amazing breakfast, and fun take-home cups for the kids), Brewhouse, and our ultimate favorite El Furniture Warehouse. With a menu packed with delicious foods including many kid friendly options (chicken strips and fries, grilled cheese, quesadilla, perogies, and mac n’ cheese) I promise everyone will leave happy.
I was certain tobogganing was the highlight, until I asked Sofia and she couldn’t decide between tobogganing and ice skating, swimming, eating yummy candy and all the pretty lights at night. So let’s just say it was one of the highlight. Tourism Whistler went above and beyond if you ask me, stepping up their family-game with a mini toboggan park within the village, that’s completely free I may add (bring your own sled) and an ice skating rink which is free also, with an option to rent skates for $5. Sofia stepped on the ice for her very first time, and what a better place, they’ve created the most amazing atmosphere set to the tune of the frozen soundtrack (at least while we were there it was on). VACATION MADE.
We wanted so badly to get up the mountain this visit, play in the snow and to do the Peak 2 Peak, however ripping Sofia and all the littles from the toboggan park was just not happening. Not physically or emotionally, so instead we decided to skip it and give the extra time for more slide-by giggles at the toboggan park.
Whistler can sometimes be mistaken for a family vacation that is too rich for some, this is not the case, not even in the slightest. Don’t get me wrong you can go ahead and make it an expensive trip if you’d like, the options are there for you and easy to find (hello Four Seasons and Hy’s Steak House), but it’s very easy and just as enjoyable to do it affordably. We call Whistler our happy place, our home away from home, and like to visit at least twice a year. The Christmas holidays in Whistler village has my whole heart, but Summer I will admit is beautiful. Every family must experience Whistler in December, and I will make sure each and everyone of you do (by posting every time we go)!
HAVE YOU visited Whistler over the Christmas holidays? On a scale of 1 to captivating how amazing is a walk through the village at night?
