DIY: Pasta Fun for Toddlers

PastaPlayHEADER

Keeping a toddler busy is no simple task; I am the first to admit. So when I stumbled across a bunch of posts on pinterest for pasta dying and necklace making, I thought to myself… “well this should at least eat up 45 minutes of our day”. So to the cupboard I went, found some pasta we already had on hand that would make for brilliant jewels, and hit up my beading case for the perfect silky ribbon. This is when the fun began!

The skies the limit on what you can actually do with dyed pasta, however we chose to make necklaces. First we made it a fun color matching game and separated the colors into their own bowls; we then strung a patterns onto our ribbons, while we bellowed out the color name. When you are nearly two, every task is one you can learn from.

We followed a recipe that combined both white vinegar and food dye, as this was what we had on hand. We chose the four colors that we wanted to work with and off we went. Here is how you can “play with pasta” and keep your toddlers busy!

What You’ll Need
Ziploc Bags
Dried Pasta
Food Dye
White Vinegar
Pans
Parchment Paper

Instructions
1. Separate your pasta into the same amount sections as you have food dye; for us, it was 4
2. Add 1 tsp of vinegar to about 10 drops of food dye into each ziploc bag
3. Add your separated pasta into each bag, and fill with a little air {makes for easy shaking}
4. Grab a toddler, and shake! shake! shake!
5. Reach for your parchment lined pans and dump your colored pasta onto the sheets
6. Place someplace they will be untouched while they dry {I chose a cool oven}
7. Took about 1 hour and we had beautiful pasta ready for crafting
